Programme of activities for young professionals during the 41st IAHR World Congress

On the occasion of the 41st IAHR World Congress a variety of activities will be dedicated to young professionals

  • Fireside Chats with Water Professionals

24 JUNE, 25 JUNE and 26 JUNE 2025 (TUESDAY TO THURSDAY), 1:15 PM – 1:45 PM, Singapore EXPO Meeting Rooms, ROOM 7
The ‘Fireside Chats with Water Professionals’ aims for participants to learn about different career paths in the sectors of academia, industry and consultancy. Three sharing sessions will be held over the three days, where senior leaders from the sectors of Academia, Industry and Consultancy providers will share about their expertise and work experience.

This ceremony marks a significant milestone and recognizes the achievements of participants in the SWA YWP mentorship programme, celebrating the culmination of their hard work and dedication.

The networking does not stop when the sessions end, with a lively Happy Hour. Prof. Philippe Gourbesville, President of IAHR will begin the evening with an opening address. Thereafter, this event is the perfect opportunity for participants to unwind, connect with fellow attendees, and forge new professional relationships in a relaxed and social setting.

5:00 PM – 5:10 PM: Welcome Address by Prof. Philippe Gourbesville, President of IAHR

5:10 PM – 6:30 PM: Young Professionals Network Night

Young professionals and new IAHR members can benefit from mentoring to get to know IAHR and its members, be introduced into the IAHR Technical Committees and Working Groups, and to find easier access to this international network of scientists and experts.

IAHR is looking for rapporteurs (between the ages of 18 to 35) who will be tasked with providing summary reports on the following 41st IAHR World Congress High Level Panels.

Rapporteurs will be the decisive instrumental part of the reporting and conclusions process.

26 JUNE 2025 (THURSDAY)
This session will explore key aspects of the writing process, focusing on the purpose of academic writing and essential elements of excellence. Topics include effective preparation, structuring content, the critical role of revision, and best practices before submission. We’ll also discuss how to respond to reviews, the importance of serving as a reviewer, and common pitfalls to avoid.

Additionally, insights into the Journal of Hydraulic Research, its editorial standards, and its role in advancing the field of hydraulics will provide a comprehensive guide to academic publishing in this leading journal. JHR is the flagship of the IAHR Journals.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet the rest of the editors of IAHR journals.

The competition recognises conference papers from undergraduate and postgraduate students on the basis of written and oral presentations at the 41st IAHR World Congress in Singapore.
